Iga Świątek admits that she sometimes feels empathy for her opponents when she’s done bageling them 6-0 in a set.
“Sometimes the opponents are my friends and I know that they’re really nice and I feel sometimes that,” she told Jon Wertheim of Tennis Channel after beating Alison Riske of the U.S., 6-0, 6-2 in the second round at Roland Garros Thursday, “but honestly in sports you have to cut off all these thoughts and just go for it and stay really in the zone so for me the priority is to stay aggressive and stay proactive.”
With her latest victory, the 20-year-old world No. 1 from Poland stretched her winning streak to 30 matches. On Friday, it will have been 100 days since her last loss to Jelena Ostapenko in Dubai. During the run, she won 28 straight sets at one point and served up 14 bagels.
