Based on the recent fact, Travis Kelce catapulted himself even further into Kansas City Chiefs history on Sunday when he broke Tony Gonzalez’s all-time record for receiving yards with the franchise.
Kansas City defeated the Miami Dolphins 21-14 in Germany on Sunday morning, with Kelce reaching the milestone midway through the fixture.
However, it was not an afternoon to remember in terms of individual performance for the tight end, who actually caught just three passes all afternoon long.
He caught those passes for a total of 14 yards, which was enough for him to break the record set by Gonzalez, although Andy Reid was unhappy with how poorly the Chiefs were able utilize the tight end.
We didn’t get him the ball enough,” Reid explained.
What was Tony Gonzalez’s record?
Prior to Sunday’s game, Gonzalez received for 10,940 yards and stood alone in the Chiefs’ record books, however Kelce now has the record with 10,941 yards.
It wasn’t the perfect afternoon off the field for Kelce either, with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, not being present in Germany for the fixture against the Dolphins.
Rumors had spread all week that the American singer would be present in Frankfurt, leading to complications in the betting market, given the fact the Chiefs and Kelce tend to play much better when Swift is in attendance.
After dodging questions about her whereabouts in the pre-match press conference, Kelce was able to keep the secret about Swift not making it to Germany.
As such, he wasn’t able to celebrate with her after the victory was confirmed, although he is likely to be able to once he returns to North America.
Despite Taylor Swift not being in Germany, the organizers in Frankfurt were able to sprinkle some of her stardust on the occasion, playing a number of her hits over the stadium PA system both before, during and after the game.
