Trump diagnosed with vein condition after noticing swelling in legs

President Donald Trump has been diagnosed with a vein condition known as chronic venous insufficiency after noticing swelling in his legs, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Thursday.

Chronic venous insufficiency occurs when veins in the legs struggle to allow blood to flow back up to the heart, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Leavit said that Trump noticed “mild swelling” in his lower legs and was evaluated by the White House medical unit.

Tests showed “no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease,” but Trump has blood pooling in his veins, according to Leavitt. She added that it is common in individuals older than 70. Trump is 79.

She said that bruising on Trump’s hand, which has been a cause of concern and is covered up by makeup, is “consistent” with irritation from his “frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin.”

Leavitt said that “the president remains in excellent health.”
