A few months removed from his Super Bowl LVII victory, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who downplayed the matchup at the time, finally was able to reflect on his momentous win.
If scripted in Hollywood, it almost would’ve sounded too far-fetched.
The come-from-behind, 38-35 win was against the Philadelphia Eagles, the other NFL team Reid led. And it featured the Kelce brothers, two Pro Bowl players he coached, pitted against each other.
“It was a unique time and situation,” Reid exclusively shared. “What are the chances?”
Reid did think about his friends from his Eagles days — from owner Jeffrey Lurie and general manager Howie Roseman to the three players he drafted (Fletcher Cox, Jason Kelce and Brandon Graham) to the security and equipment staff.“It was nuts that way,” Reid said. “I’m looking across the field and I see those guys.”
Now, as the page is turned to 2023, the challenge for the Chiefs, who had had a chip on their shoulder last year, following the high-profile additions to other teams in the AFC West, is to fight complacency — especially after reaching three of the last four Super Bowls.
“Teams always think about that after they win a Super Bowl, but I like my leadership that I have,” Reid said. “I don’t have to say much. I mean, the players said it at the parade. They want to get back there and so they made that loud and clear.”Forbes
