Being a superhero is not always enough—you also have to be well paid and Scarlett Johansson is both. After the success of Marvel’s Black Widow, she has been named the world’s highest-paid actress. Between 2017 and 2018, her net worth increased by about $40.5 million; since then, it has quadrupled, amounting to $165 million.
According to Forbes, Scarlett Johansson surpassed Emma Stone, whose net worth increased by around $26 million last year, as well as Jennifer Lawrence, who was at the top of the rankings for two consecutive years.
Specifically, it was Johansson’s role as the heroine Black Widow that raised Johansson’s net worth. Due to the popularity of Marvel movies, the actress took home a significant amount, especially after the release of Avengers: Infinity War, which, at the time, grossed $2 billion at global box offices.
In 2022, Johansson surpassed actresses such as Angelina Jolie (who grossed $28 million), Jennifer Aniston ($19.5 million), Jennifer Lawrence, and Reese Witherspoon ($16.5 million).
Together, the 10 highest-paid actresses in the world make $186 million in Forbes’ 12-month period, before fees and taxes. A 16 percent increase from $172.5 million in 2017.
But, returning to Johansson, the actress also makes money from brand endorsements and real estate investments. According to Forbes, she has made almost $100 million in total over the past two years. Not too bad, right?
Well, it seems that being a superhero is actually an extremely profitable business.
