The traditions of British royalty have many protocols that, at times, have come to be broken due to the will of the people who compose it, this has again become clear during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in London, because as is customary neither Meghan Markle nor Kate Middleton walked this Monday in the funeral procession.
According to tradition, in all the funerals of the royal family, it is only men who must walk while making the journey from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey, both Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have respected this protocol, however, again, Anne decided to break the tradition.
The protocols that Princess Anne has broken
Princess Anne did walk on the way to pay tribute to her mother and she did it next to her brothers, King Charles III, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, behind them were the grandchildren of Elizabeth II, Prince William, Prince Harry and Peter Phillips.
This is not the first time that Princess Anne has broken protocol at a funeral, as she walked in the funeral procession starting last week in her mother’s procession in Scotland, she also did so in 2021, after the death of her father Prince Philip and 2002 when tribute was paid to the Queen Mother (her grandmother), after her passing.
How did Markle and Middleton get to the funeral?
As for Queen Consort Camilla, Markle and Middleton, all three arrived on their own to the funeral in their own vehicles and witnessed the entire official ceremony to say goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away last Thursday, September 8, at the age of 96 after 70 years of reign.
In the case of the Duchess of Sussex, she arrived in the same car as Prince Harry, who was part of the entourage, so they said goodbye after arriving at the event.
