She’s always been emotional on court, she’s only 20 and Olympics means a lot to her. She’s alright though, I’ve seen her post match interview and she was composed. But yeah even for her it was a big reaction. I only recall once something similar after lost match to Muchova in 2019.
“It seems to me that 90 percent of players cry after losing matches,” Swiatek said.
“This time it happened to me. We are also human. Competing at the highest level every week is not easy. Tennis is such a frustrating sport at times, but of course there is nothing to complain about.”
Poor Iga ,, Match aside, she’s probably felt so much pressure as the only Polish woman in the draw, her quick rise, and her dad’s Olympics legacy — she’ll have her day here eventually, I believe in her. :] I feel like the cultural relevance of the Olympics also varies by country and sport.
In a sport like tennis, with four major events every year, the Olympics naturally pale in comparison. And an Olympic medal means a lot more in a country that doesn’t have many vs. one that has already won several.
