“Lighter, faster and more versatile.”
That’s how Dutch luxury yacht builder Wajer describes the 55 S, a higher-end version of its flagship vessel launched in 2018. That’s also how many described Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady after besting Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Super Bowl LV, despite being the older QB by almost two decades.
It’s only right then that Brady chose the Wajer 55 S to ferry him and his family (and the Lombardi Trophy, for a while at least) during the Buccaneers’ celebratory boat parade on Wednesday in Tampa.
As it turns out, the boat wasn’t just a one-day joyride — TMZ reported in December that the 43-year-old recently purchased the yacht for use in and around the Tampa area. Being a luxury enterprise, Wajer doesn’t publicly list the prices of its yachts, but the outlet estimated Brady’s 55 S went for about $2 million.
Why did Brady go with this particular vessel when his two-year, $50 million contract with the Bucs put him in prime position to buy pretty much any boat he could want? When Robb Report wrote about the purchase, they described Wajer as “one of several high-end cruiser brands from the Netherlands that are considered fashion statements in European and increasingly U.S. marinas.” And when they reached out to the company, they revealed that there are only four 55 S models in the U.S., and only 10 Wajer yachts in total. Discerning, indeed.
As befits a multi-million-dollar yacht, the boat has a name: Viva a Vida, which is the same name as the tree-planting initiative of Brady’s wife Gisele Bündchen.
