To say that Taylor Swift’s impact on the NFL has been massive would be an understatement. It has now been over a year since the “Fortnight” singer started dating Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, and during that time, she has and continues to take the football world by storm.
The NFL has had no complaints about this surge as Swift has pretty much single-handedly opened a whole new demographic of fans for the league. There’s no denying the fact that the “Eras Tour” headliner brought in the Swifties not only to support the Chiefs but the entire NFL as well.
To show their appreciation, the league decided to post a 31-second TikTok video on Friday to celebrate Swift’s 35th birthday. It was a montage of Swift’s most memorable moments with Kelce, and it certainly gave the fans all the feels.
“karma is the guy on the @Chiefs saying happy bday to me ” the NFL captioned its post.
A testament to how the NFL’s fanbase has taken a significant shift is the fact that, surprisingly, the comments on the post have been very positive. Before Swift started dating Kelce, not too many football fans would have probably imagined that the league would be sending a birthday greeting to the pop megastar. Yet here we all are.
Looking at the comments section of the post, the general sentiment of the fans has been an appreciation for the league’s endearing gesture. At the same time, however, some supporters could not help but notice the rather surprising lack of backlash from the anti-Taylor Swift faction of NFL fans.
“No dads, Brads or Chads comments seen. And it is PERFECT! ” a comment on TikTok read.
“I am shocked at the comments. I was expecting all the Brads and Chad’s!,” reacted a user.
“I think we finally scared them away ” suggested another.
“My old (expletive) came here to fight Brad/Chad but I’m grateful to see all the love. My granddaughter turned me into a Swiftie ” said another.
“They must have realized they need accept it because the NFL has whole heartedly embraced the Swifties. ” a fan wrote.
“Been an NFL fan for 40 years and never thought I’d see something like this! Well done sm team and Happy Birthday Taylor Swift,” a Swiftie declared.
As a lot of the other TikTok comments said, this post can also be considered as the NFL’s declaration of their Swiftie-ness — and the fans are loving the league for it.
