The media and sponsors demand more of your time. Your opponents’ level of play increases as they now have a chance to take down a major champion. And the social media scrutiny of everything from your style of play to your style of dress is magnified.

That’s life for young American tennis star Coco Gauff now. Gauff, who will turn 20 while in Indian Wells for the BNP Paribas Open these next two weeks, has embraced her new life after winning the 2023 U.S. Open.

She’s navigating her way through the instant fame that comes with winning your first Grand Slam title in New York City. Look for her on your newsstand in a couple of particularly high-end magazines. She just unveiled on social media images from her photo shoot for the cover of the April issue of “Vogue” and on Tuesday she attended the “Time” magazine Women of the Year gala in Hollywood as one of the magazine’s 12 honorees for 2024.
