The National Football League (NFL) is one of the richest sporting divisions in the world.
The best players in the league are tied down by the teams they represent with a multi-million dollar contract every year.
Aaron Rodgers earns the most money among quarterbacks in the NFL. The 38-year-old committed to the Green Bay Packers in March with a three-year contract extension worth more than $150 million. He’ll make more than $50 million on average per season. The back-to-back NFL MVP is not just the highest paid quarterback, but the highest paid player in all of NFL.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the deal also has two placeholders for cap purposes at the back end that might be changed at that time.
In 2022, Rodgers was projected to get a base salary of $26.47 million and a salary cap of $46.664 million. The new agreement raises his salary this season while decreasing the cap amount.
According to Pelissero, the quarterback for the Packers will make $42 million in 2022, $59.515 million in 2023, and $49.3 million in 2024, bringing his three-year total to $150.815 million.
Kyler Murray, Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes also feature
Kyler Murray agreed to a five-year agreement on July 21, 2022, at a total of $230.5 million, according to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The agreement guarantees $160 million and commits the Cardinals’ quarterback to Arizona through 2028.
After being traded from the Texans to the Browns, Watson inked a $230 million, five-year contract. Given the uncertainty surrounding Deshaun Watson’s legal condition at the time of the transaction, the entirety of his contract is guaranteed, which was closely examined at the time of the trade.
Patrick Mahomes’ overall contract value, if he meets all of his incentives, was $502.631 million over 12 years when he signed it in September 2020.
His base contract, which covers the final two seasons before his extension takes effect, is for $477.631 million, or $39.8 million annually. Mahomes will start earning an average of $45 million annually in 2022.
