Patrick Mahomes’s wife Brittany has called the mayor of Cincinnati ‘weak and embarrassing’ after he trolled the Chiefs quarterback before Sunday’s game against the Bengals.
Cincinnati mayor Aftab Pureval used an official proclamation on Friday to try and antagonize Mahomes and Kansas, saying the city ‘ was named after its neighboring state which is kind of weird’ and that Sunday’s game will be held at the ‘Burrowhead Stadium’.
Pureval wasn’t finished there, also claiming that Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has been ‘asked by officials to take a paternity test’ to find out if he is Mahomes’s father.
Brittany Mahomes eventually took to Twitter on Friday night, branding Pureval ‘WEAK and embarrassing’ in response to the Kansas City mayor, Quinton Lucas, defending Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Lucas wrote: ‘Sorry, y’all. I hear the mayor of Cincinnati has tried to bring some smoke that’s weak as hell. Catching up now…’Responding to Brittany Mahomes’ tweet, Lucas continued: ‘Agreed. No need to respond.
‘KC’s got class. Cincinnati has Jerry Springer and no rings. See them Sunday.’Burrows has a 3-0 record over Mahomes, who heads into Sunday’s game with concerns about his overall health after spraining his ankle in the 27-20 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
But a potential first win over Burrows would be huge for both Mahomes and his team as it would book them a place in the Super Bowl on February 12 in Arizona.Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Friday: ‘He’s moving around well. He can go out and play.’
Following the injury last weekend, Mahomes sat out the remainder of the second quarter until he could be fully examined during halftime, before returning to the game in the second half of play.
His mobility was clearly limited and he was forced to change his play style due to the inability to run around or properly distribute weight in his feet.
Mahomes led the NFL in throws from outside the pocket during the regular season but made none against the Jaguars after the injury. ‘We have enough in the game plan where you can kind of pick and choose where you want to go with it,’ Reid added.
‘You have a variety of things that you can go to. Obviously you don’t use all the plays in the game plan, but they’re available and so if you have to go a certain direction, you can go that direction with the calls.’The Bengals, meanwhile, advanced to Sunday’s game by beating the Buffalo Bills 27-10.
