Travis Kelce has been making major career moves in the last year that indicate he’s preparing for his post-NFL life. From acting roles in movies including Happy Gilmore 2 to his hosting gig on Prime Video’s Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end knows that his time in football is in its final chapter — and some of the decisions he’s making appear to be directly related to Taylor Swift.
With the recent news that the 35-year-old pop star is making Nashville her new home base after years of jet-setting between New York and Los Angeles, the duo might also be making long-term relationship plans. “The next few months, for Travis at least, will determine what he ends up doing,” a source claimed to the Daily Mail. “He’s not ready to retire, but if the Chiefs win a third consecutive Super Bowl, Travis will be more prone to retire after his current contract that expires in 2027 and ride off into the sunset and look to start a family with Taylor anywhere she wants, which is leaning towards Nashville.”
Kelce might not be ready to retire after this season, but he’s thinking about it. “I’m at a time in my life where I’m getting a lot of opportunities, and when you win the Super Bowl, doors open for you,” he told Extra in April. “It’s the best feeling in the world. I just gotta make sure that I’m set up for what’s next.” Swift’s success on her Eras Tour was a great way to end 2024 which also included a third Super Bowl win for Kelce.
“Their life has been a complete fairy tale, and they are going to continue that with everything they decide to do, they don’t want to ever hamper a good thing,” the Daily Mail source noted. “So, it’s been a discussion on what is next, and it has all been productive and they are so on the same page.”
Kelce signed a contract extension with his team in April that gave him two more years at a whopping $34.25 million, per ESPN. In June, he indicated that he was ready to play “until the wheels fall off.”
“I really can’t put a timeframe on (retirement),” he explained, per The Athletic. “I love coming to work every single day. Obviously, I know there’s opportunities outside of football for me. You have to keep in perspective that I’m still a little kid when I come into this building, man. I know I’m 34 years old, but I have a love to do this right here, in the middle of the heat in June. I love coming to work every single day.”
Those plans may have changed now that his relationship with Swift has taken a more serious turn. The dynamic duo is endgame material and Kelce might be prioritizing his personal life over the football field.
