Pop music megastar Taylor Swift may have been named Time’s “Person of the Year” this week, but that didn’t stop the social media team with the Detroit Lions from having a little fun with her and her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce.
In a video posted Thursday to the team’s Tik Tok page, a simple question is asked of viewers: “True or false? Taylor Swift is dating the tight end with the most touchdowns in the NFL this season.” The video then reveals the answer is false and drops the line “Taylor Swift is not dating Sam LaPorta.”
LaPorta is currently tied with Mark Andrews of the Baltimore Ravens for the league lead in touchdowns by a tight end with six. Kelce trails slightly having scored five touchdowns this season.
- While Kelce is an all-time great at the position, LaPorta is having one of the greatest rookie seasons of any tight end in league history. Last week, LaPorta became just the sixth player ever to record 60 or more receptions, 675 or more receiving yards and 6 receiving touchdown through the first 12 games of his NFL career. It’s worth noting none of the other players on that list played tight end either.
The Tik Tok post has been up for less than 24 hours and has already received more than 75,000 likes and has been shared nearly 4,000 times.
Although Swift may be the world’s biggest music star now, she was admittedly a nervous wreck when she performed the “Star Spangled Banner” at Ford Field prior to the Lions game vs. the Miami Dolphins on Thanksgiving Day 2006. Swift reflected on the performance earlier this year when she played Ford Field during her “The Eras Tour,”saying it was “the biggest place I had ever seen in my life. I was absolutely losing it. So nervous. Freaking out.”
In regards to the Tik Tok, so far there doesn’t appear to be any bad blood forming between The Swifties and the Lions social media team, but if tensions do rise, expect the social media jokesters to be ready for it.
