Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are seemingly on a quest “to punish somebody” amid their ongoing rift with the Royal Family, says an expert.

After stepping back from his senior royal duties, Harry took legal action against the Home Office in 2020 due to changes made to his security arrangements in the UK. The Duke of Sussex has since moved to the US with Meghan and their two children, where they have resided for the last four years.

TalkTV’s Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield weighed in on the enduring security row, implying that the couple seems intent on “to punish somebody” by dragging out the dispute. Ms Schofield remarked: “Meghan not coming during several of the last visits, Harry refusing to stay at the Palace.

It’s almost as if they’re trying to prove their point by saying, ‘Well, Meghan can’t come. She’s not safe enough. Harry can’t stay at the Palace, it’s not safe enough.”

She continued: “It feels they are creating this distance to punish somebody and to prove some point but the reality is that’s the safest Harry would have been.”

Following his resignation from royal duties, Harry’s security funded by the taxpayer was withdrawn by the Home Office, reports the Mirror.

Harry has returned to the UK multiple times since he ceased being a working royal, including a trip last month. In early May, Harry visited the UK to be present at a commemorative event celebrating the Invictus Games’ 10th anniversary.

The Duke journeyed solo, leaving Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, back in the US. Meghan’s last trip to the UK was in September 2022, which included her attendance at the late Queen’s funeral.

Prince Archie, aged 5, and Princess Lilibet, aged 3, haven’t set foot in the UK since June of that year – with Lilibet having only ever visited once.

Before Harry’s visit the previous month, it was rumoured that Meghan was apprehensive about an “anxiety-fuelled visit” if she were to accompany him with their children. An insider reportedly told the Mirror at the time: “It’s now got to the point where Meghan doesn’t want to come to the UK with the children. She just doesn’t feel safe.”

In other developments, Meghan has been advised on two challenging aspects she must overcome for her new lifestyle brand venture, American Riviera Orchard, to flourish.

A royal expert and author has claimed that the Duchess of Sussex is “struggling to find staff for her new brand”. Earlier in March, Meghan discreetly launched her latest business endeavour.

An Instagram account emerged on the platform, introducing American Riviera Orchard to the world. Upon the brand’s introduction, Meghan gave a sneak peek into its aesthetic with a brief video trailer on an Instagram story.

She then showcased the brand’s logo across a nine-grid collage on the page.
